In spring, abundant lavender-blue periwinkle flowers are held over a lush carpet of bright foliage. The larger, oval-shaped green leaves are prominently bordered with creamy white to soft creamy yellow. Best grown in part shade with a break from direct sun during the afternoon, this excellent groundcover quickly forms a dense mat 4 to 6 inches high and spreading to 36 inches or more. Excellent in landscape borders, under large trees, and indoors or outdoors as a soil cover and spiller plant in pots, planters, hanging baskets and other containers. Perennials such as Hosta and hardy ferns will pop right through the foliage in spring. In USDA Zones 7 through 9 it will prefer a break from direct sunlight during the afternoon hours. Morning and evening sun are fine.
