In hot-summer climates it will appreciate some shade or filtered sun during the afternoon. Whether growing in the ground or in pots, constantly soggy soil or standing water is problematic, so avoid overwatering. Provide only enough water to keep the soil damp to moist. Established plants are quite drought tolerant and will only require an occasional drink during prolonged periods of drought. Maintenance is minimal. In late spring to early summer, abundant, very showy purple cones adorn the plant. Green Carpet is more heat tolerant than other firs, and with little if any pruning required to maintain its low form, it is excellent in sunny landscape borders, garden beds, home foundation plantings, or on slopes and embankments.
