After the attractive green leaves have emerged, abundant and gorgeous hanging flower panicles, resembling those of wisteria, are loaded with fragrant white flowers in late spring to early summer. The foliage turns brilliant shades of yellow and\/or orange during the fall. The smooth gray bark and branching form add winter interest in the landscape. It has a deep root system so is drought tolerant when established, and which also allows for shade-loving perennials, shrubs and other plants to grow beneath it. Excellent around outdoor sitting and living spaces where it provides some cooling shade during the warm seasons or in a meadow or sunny to partially shaded woodland border. It makes an excellent specimen for a winter or a wildlife garden as this tree not only provides nesting sites for songbirds, but high quality pollen and nectar for beneficial pollinators.
