It was released in 2013 by RD Plants in the UK and was named after author and plantswoman Anna Pavord. Adored for its incredibly floriferous bloom, attractive foliage and robust growth, Anna's Red features abundant, saucer-shaped, ruby-red flowers with a crown of contrasting bright stamens occurring from late winter well into spring. Unlike some varieties, many of the long-lasting large flowers of this one are outward facing and held on sturdy reddish stems which make them perfect for cutting and use in floral arrangements and bouquets. Nectar rich, the flowers offer emerging winter bees an essential food source at a time when not much else is blooming in the garden. The flowers stems rise above very attractive leathery, silver-veined, deep green evergreen foliage that is deer and rabbit resistant.
