We can't speak for folks in other areas, but in our north central Georgia gardens, Spanish Lavender has outperformed all other types and varieties. It stands up to the hot and humid summers as far south as USDA Zone 9b. 'Anouk' is typically a compact variety that grows to only 14 inches tall and maybe 18 inches wide, but this tree form will of course be taller due to the height of the trunk. Beginning in late spring to early summer and continuing through mid to late summer, loads of unusual purple flower spikes topped with waving mauve-lilac petals rise on sturdy stems just above the grey-green foliage. The flowers are excellent for cutting and attractive to butterflies, but deer and rabbits won't touch the plant.
