In general, like all other azaleas, the Encores prefer an organically rich, moist but well-drained acidic soil. Constantly soggy or wet soil is problematic for azaleas. Heavy clay, quick-draining sand, or otherwise poor soils are best amended with organic matter or other soil amendments to provide sufficient nutrients, better soil drainage, and\/or moisture retention. \u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003eIn containers, a 50\/50 blend of professional potting mix and potting soil is suggested. Make sure the pot has a hole(s) in the bottom that allow for sufficient drainage. When I opened up the extremely secure packaging, my azalea was pert and bursting with lovely, evergreen foliage. In the short time I have had it, it is doing well in my garden which is having daytime temps in the 40's and 50's and night time temps in the upper 30's. I have so many deciduous plants that even small. it is filling in a much needed green spot in my garden. It will look beautiful with its white blooms and green foliage next to my new blue mist fothergilla and Arctic Sun Dogwood behind it. Then after its first bloom it will bloom again in the fall when the fall colors arrive along with blue purple asters and September Charm anemones.
