In general, like all other azaleas, the Encores prefer an organically rich, moist but well-drained acidic soil. Constantly soggy or wet soil is problematic for azaleas. Heavy clay, quick-draining sand, or otherwise poor soils are best amended with organic matter or other soil amendments to provide sufficient nutrients, better soil drainage, and\/or moisture retention. \u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003eIn containers, a 50\/50 blend of professional potting mix and potting soil is suggested. Before ordering, I called them for more information about these bushes - and asked if it will survive in the climate where I live - Southwest Pennsylvania. I was told that since we have very cold winters, I will need to protect it during the winter months - at least for the first few years until it is well established.
