It occurs naturally in wetlands, including marshes, savannas, and the edges of ponds and lakes, on the coastal plain from South Carolina to Florida and Texas, but is also happy growing inland in average garden soil in Zones 8a to 11. From mid summer to early fall you and the butterflies and hummingbirds with enjoy the abundant clusters of bright yellow iris-like flowers that are perched atop strong stems clothed in upright facing blue-green leaves up to two feet long. Golden Canna thrives in consistently damp to wet soils so is perfect for use around the edges or even in the shallows of the garden pond, larger ponds and lakes, marshes and swamps or any other moist to wet areas. That said, it will tolerate short dry periods.
