It prefers the shade, and will practically grow in the dark, so is perfect for planting under tall decks and large shade trees where not much sun shines. Direct afternoon sun can scald the leaves, especially in warmer climates.  Plant with the top of the root ball even with ground level. Care and maintenance are minimal.
