A truly glowing tree in the landscape, it features whorls of variegated bright green needles decorated with bands of light butter-yellow in spring becoming more vibrant in summer. When looking at a whorl from above, the circular pattern of variegation looks like a \"dragon's eye,\" hence one of the common names for this variety. The foliage does not burn in winter, is variegated year round, and contrasts beautifully with the orange-red exfoliating bark.
