Whether in full sun or full shade, it naturally grows in a dense and distinctive pyramidal form to 15 feet or even taller, though it responds very well to pruning so is often trimmed to control size and for shaping to an even more refined tight pyramid or column. It grows maybe 6 inches per year so trimming is usually just a once-a-year thing. It is ideal for use as a specimen, to frame the corners of homes and other structures, in groupings, or as a natural or formal hedge.
