It forms a very attractive fountain-like clump of upright arching fronds with glossy blue-green leaflets. Christmas Fern is very easy to grow in heavy to partial shade so is a wonderful texture plant in woodland or shade gardens or in containers. In the wild you might see it growing on shady slopes or other well-drained areas. It does not like wet feet so make sure to plant it in sites with well-drained soil. This fern is evergreen and will retain green foliage throughout the winter in moderately cooler to warmer climates. In extremely cold climates it may be deciduous depending on the severity of cold winter winds and temperatures.
