Mukdenia rossii 'Karasuba', also called Crimson Fans, is a Heuchera relative with a totally different look like no other plant. Though it has pretty flowers, it is mainly adored for its attractive foliage. The plant forms in a spreading mound to maybe a foot tall and 2 feet wide with dense, 5-inch diameter rounded palmate leaves that look like fans. The large leaves emerge green in spring developing crimson red margins in early summer creeping inwards from the edges until by fall almost the entire leaf is a fire red. In mid spring, delicate, white, bell-shaped flowers in branched panicles rise on naked stems above the foliage clump to 16 inches tall.
