Whether planted as a specimen or massed, it is truly a presence in the landscape. In spring, new shoots emerge powder blue forming an impressive upright clump to around 5 feet tall and maybe 3 feet wide that becomes topped in summer by huge clouds of silvery plum-colored flowers that intensify in color as they age finally turning to a buff-white color. The flower panicles persist for months and are excellent for cutting and use in cut flower arrangements. Winter brings a fourth season of enjoyment as the rustling grass turns to cream tones. The foliage of this variety stands tall even under the weight of snow.
