We've only grown this one in our North Carolina gardens (Zone 6), but hear it is hardy to Zone 8. That said, to be on the safe side, we'd suggest some midafternoon shade in Zone 8. Butterflies will flock to the flowers, and they are excellent for cutting and display in a vase or floral arrangement. Heart-shaped green leaves turn to purple-red shades in the fall, adding another beautiful color show. Those in humid climates may be pleased to know that it is more resistant to powdery mildew than other \u003ci\u003eSyringa\u003c\/i\u003e species.
