A dwarf that is perfect for and often used as a hedge, its small glossy green leaves provide a fine and delicate texture in the landscape. If left unpruned the shrub will grow to be about 3 feet tall to 4 feet wide at maturity. However, with its slow growth rate of only 1 inch per year it could take 40 years or more to achieve this size. It can be maintained at less than a foot in height and width over time, however shearing increases foliage density and therefore the chance of disease in some climates. Unlike many other boxwoods that prefer a sunny site, you might be happy to know that the Dwarf English Boxwood prefers life on the shady side. The plants in our gardens have thrived in a spot that receives maybe 2 hours of direct sunlight per day.
