It prefers a moist to lightly moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade. The more sun the brighter the foliage color. We suggest at least 4 hours of direct sunlight per day. As with so many other ornamental plants, constantly soggy or wet soil is problematic. Avoid overwatering, providing only enough water to maintain a damp to moist soil. Established plants growing in the ground are exceptionally drought tolerant and would only need supplemental irrigation during prolonged periods of hot and dry weather. Plants growing in container will require more attention to watering.
