In late winter or early spring, the branches become literally smothered in pea-like bright purple flowers creating a dramatic color display in the landscape. But this tree's beauty doesn’t end with the spring flower show. Immediately after flowering its beautiful, heart-shaped bright green leaves emerge to warm your own heart. The leaves mature to an olive green and then finally to golden-yellow in fall before dropping to show off the very handsome, spreading and often flat-topped crown of unique and irregular grey branches.
