There's a two-fold meaning as to why we named it "Fall In Love." Aside from the fact that you'll "fall in love" with its super-fragrant double flowers and the large and lustrous dark green leaves, Fall In Love blooms in both spring and "fall" in our gardens.

When grown in containers Fall In Love Gardenia blooms from mid to late spring through early summer and then reblooms in fall. When growing in the ground Fall In Love will bloom two to four cycles from late spring well into summer...the first two bloom cycles being heavy, and the third and forth cycles light to moderate. That said, on plants growing in the ground, in some years we've noticed light to moderate flowering in the fall, especially when the fall season is late to arrive. In USDA Zones 8b-9b, and possibly even farther south, a heavier bloom cycle can be expected in the months of October and November.

What do the flowers of the Fall In Love Gardenia smell like? Words simply can't describe the cloud of intoxicating perfume and you can smell them from 100 feet away. One thing for sure, if there were other plants that produced flowers that smelled like those of the Fall In Love Gardenia they'd be a rage among gardeners as well.

Cold hardiness of the Fall In Love Gardenia is unrivaled. The parent plant is from an old home place in Macon, Georgia and, as of 2018, the original plant is over 60 years old - that's old for a gardenia! Based on its performance in our gardens since 2008, we think the Fall In Love Gardenia might just be the most cold hardy Gardenia on earth. The plants in our gardens sailed right through the coldest winters (3 degrees F in 2013/14) with little to no cold damage or fading of foliage. The leaves remain dark green and lustrous year round. One of the plants in our gardens receives direct full sun until 4 o'clock in the afternoon and looks just as good as the ones that get the afternoon shade, which is typically what Gardenia prefer. This said, for those of you in Zones 7a-7b we suggest planting on an eastern wall or other site that provides protection for northwesterly winter winds.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing in a dense mound about 4 feet tall and 5 feet wide, the Fall In Love Gardenia Fall In Love™ also serves well as a hedge around decks, patios and porches or grouped together in landscape beds, and is ideal for use in containers.
