As with other redbuds, this one begins the season in late winter with its stems smothered in bright purple sweet pea-like flowers. As the flower show comes to a close the even more spectacular foliage show begins. The heart-shaped leaves emerge burgundy-red quickly turning to red, orange, yellow and then lime green. What's truly stunning is how all these colors are present on the tree at the same time during spring! With the arrival of cooler temperatures in fall the foliage turns to yellow.
