If the winter temperatures don't go below freezing you can can grow it outdoors year round. Otherwise, it can be grown in a container that can be situated outdoors during the warm seasons and overwintered indoors, or grown indoors year round as a houseplant. It features highly attractive fluffy stems of pine needle-like leaves resembling a foxtail, which gives it a plush appearance. A member of the asparagus family, the Foxtail Fern is actually not a fern at all, but an evergreen herb. Unlike ferns which use spores to reproduce, it uses seeds. The plant produces tiny white flowers that are followed by eye-catching red berries. A wonderful textural addition to both outside gardens and indoor houseplant collections, indoors it likes bright indirect light, and outdoors it likes shade to part shade with shade in the afternoon hours.
