In spring, unusual looking creamy 4-petaled flowers emerge which are followed by orange-skinned, deliciously mild-sweet always seedless and non-astringent high-grade fruits that are crisp like an apple. One mature tree can produce up to 50 pounds of fruit in a single season. After the leaves have fallen in fall, the abundant fruits look like little pumpkins hanging from the stems, providing awesome appeal in the landscape or fruit garden. The fruits can be picked and eaten right off the tree, sliced like a tomato, or used in a variety of baked goods. Attractive, glossy, dark green leaves turn brilliant golden-yellow, orange and red shades with the arrival of cooler temperatures in fall, contrasting beautifully with the orange fruits.
