A rapid grower, it forms a stately, upright, dense clump to 12 feet high in flower and 4 to 6 feet wide, with bamboo-like stems clothed in arching, dark green leaves, making it a fine choice as a focal point specimen, in a grouping, as a background plant, or as a privacy screen. Its foliage turns burnt-orange and golden-brown shades in fall, becoming tan shades in winter. In late summer, pinkish-red fluffy plumes are perched on sturdy stalks above the foliage, turning to silvery white as they age. It's a sterile hybrid, so there's no need to worry about seeds that would self-sow. Easy to grow and long-lived, Giant Miscanthus thrives in six or more hours of sunlight daily and moist, well-drained soil. However, its deep root system makes it drought-tolerant once established.
