It has a stout trunk and adds only 8 to 10 inches or so in size per year, eventually forming a dense pyramid to only 10 feet tall and maybe 7 feet wide at its base when all grown up. The branchlets are clothed in dark green, spirally-arranged, awl- shaped needles that curve inward, creating a thick, dense habit. Contrasting new growth emerges bright green. It sports persistent, cinnamon-colored decorative female cones about 3\/4\" inch long for extra appeal. In exposed areas of USDA Zones 6-9 (where it is hardy), the foliage takes on an attractive orange to coppery tint during the winter months, particularly when exposed to wind. Very low maintenance and easy to grow, Giokumo is an attractive evergreen specimen or spaced grouping in smaller landscape and garden spaces where it also serves as the perfect size, no-maintenance, outdoor Christmas tree.
