Like other redbuds, this one begins the season in late winter to early spring with its stems smothered in clusters of vivid pinkish-purple sweet pea-like flowers. As the flower show ends, the even more spectacular foliage show begins. The heart-shaped leaves in spring are fiery shades of burgundy-red, tangerine-orange, and golden yellow. As the season progresses, the leaves mature to a reddish-green, with golden-yellow shades in fall.
