It grows 3 to 5 feet tall and is native to large portions of Eurasia, Canada and the U.S., where in the wild you might find is growing in the peripheries of wetland areas, lakes, rivers and ponds. Perfect for filling those moist to wet spots, its rigid, hollow and jointed upright dark green stems provide unique texture and a vertical accent in the landscape or pots in the margin of the garden pond. The plant spreads from underground rhizomes and will form an attractive colony in consistently moist soils. Equisetum is the single surviving genus of a class of primitive vascular plants that dates back to the mid-Devonian period (350 + million years ago).
