Even though its a dwarf, it has the same long needles as its larger growing cousins, which can be 8 to 12 inches long. The straight needles are arranged in basketball-sized puffs appearing as soft globes. A very tough pine that will grow in harsh conditions at low or high elevations in well-drained sandy or clay soils with highly acidic to neutral soil. On the west coast, it is very heat and drought tolerant once established. Perfect for rock gardens and mountain gardens and in containers as well.
