In mid to late spring and reblooming in late summer well into fall, it features loads of large 2.5 to 3 inch salmon-pink flowers with a blotch of purple-red freckles on the dorsal petal. Handsome, finely textured evergreen foliage is bright to medium green through the warm seasons turning attractive bronze shades through the winter months. Butterflies and hummingbirds love the flowers, and blooming branches serve very well for cutting to create stunning indoor floral arrangements. At maybe 3 feet tall and 4 feet wide when all grown up, Wakaebisu is a fine accent in small garden spaces or grouped or as a natural low hedge where space allows. This one is so dependable that we have no problem suggesting it for use in home foundation plantings.
