It might reach 25 to 30 feet tall, but is only 6 to 10 feet wide when fully grown. Its upright, teardrop columnar form makes it a perfect selection for adding height where there isn't the space for a wider growing tree. As with its larger growing cousins, the bird-feather-like leaves emerge a brilliant light green, aging to a rich green and finally to an attractive copper-cinnamon for weeks in the fall. Its ascending, tiered branches with fibrous, golden brown bark provide interest in the garden during the winter months. An exceptionally adaptable and easy-to-grow North American native, Lyndsey's Skyward thrives in moist to wet soil in both hot southern climates and cold northern climates (USDA Zones 5-11). Maintenance is minimal to none. Pruning isn't necessary; however, an annual pruning in late winter can be performed to keep the tree more narrow or to remove lower branches.
