The palmate leaves emerge red in spring and turn blackish maroon in summer when the tree gets 6 hours or more of direct sunlight daily. Upon closer observation, some of the leaves have prominent green veins. The arrival of cooler temperatures in fall brings bright scarlet red shades. The bark on the stems and branches is a dark maroon that looks almost black during the winter. Lolita is an upright grower with a rounded vase form that might reach 12 feet tall and 8 feet wide in 10 years and maybe 20 feet tall and 12 to 15 feet wide when all grown up. Excellent as a focal point specimen in landscape borders and home foundation plantings.
