For starters, its boldly variegated leaves look as though someone used a paintbrush to paint a wide white border around the edges of its rich green leaves. Mariesii Variegated has a different style of bloom than the traditional mophead \u003cspan\u003eHydrangea macrophylla\u003c\/span\u003e. The 4\" wide lacecap flowers are comprised of bead-like florets at the center that do not open, but still show color. Surrounding the center is a outer layer of white or very faint-blue florets that are fertile and do in fact open.
