The tree is clothed in soft feathery foliage that you just want to reach out touch, emerging light green aging to rich-green and finally to a handsome red-bronze for weeks in fall. During winter its attractive tiered branches, which point upwards at the ends, and fibrous bark provide unique character in the garden during the winter months. Maintenance is minimal to none. Pruning isn't necessary, however an annual pruning in late winter can be performed to keep the tree more narrow.
