In mid to late summer airy clouds of rosy purple flowers rise about a foot or so above a 12 inch tall open mound of arching blue-green, soft-textured grassy foliage. With the arrival of cooler temperatures in fall the foliage develops a bronze red color with buff color seed heads floating above. Flourishing in dry, sandy or gravelly and infertile soil and sunny areas, Purple Love Grass is one you can plant and pretty much forget about once established. It even flourishes on roadsides that receive winter salt. Plants can be cut back to just above the ground before new growth begins to emerge in late winter or early spring. Will freely self sow where happy.
