It forms a more dense rounded mound of 4-inch long, wedge-shaped, glossy green leaves from which rise sturdy stems topped with one-sided cemes of upward-facing, tubular, brilliant orange-red flowers with yellow interiors. The trumpet-shaped flowers are flared at the top with 5 pointed lobes that form a yellow star. In our gardens, we've noticed that it blooms heavier and longer than other varieties: from late spring through mid-summer. The flowers are highly attractive to hummingbirds and are excellent for cutting and display in fresh floral arrangements.
