From May to frost this cross between a shrubby and vining Clematis produces an abundance of very pretty, nodding, bell-shaped flowers with reflexed indigo-violet petals tipped in lavender. Each flower is held singly at the ends of black, bishop crook stems. Roguchi can be grown on a trellis, fence, obelisk, small tree or other upright structure where it can reach 6 to 8 feet in height and 3 to 4 feet wide. This group flowers on the last 2 to 3 feet of the current season's growth (new wood). They are easy to prune because you do not need to maintain any old wood. In February or March, cut each stem to a height of 1 or 2 feet above the ground. Always make sure to leave two good buds below where you make your cut. New growth will emerge from these buds to produce the current seasons vines and blooms. Although on some varieties you will be removing some green stems and buds, this treatment keeps these vigorous growers in bounds.
