Even those who consider they have a \"brown thumb\" can easily grow this plant. The plant is comprised of one large rosette, called the \"hen,\" which sprouts many smaller rosettes around it called \"chicks.\" The 'Silver King' Hen and Chicks forms rosettes of pointed, silvery mint green leaves during the warm season that with the arrival of cooler temperatures in fall development rosy red to fuchsia-red coloration on most of the leaf with the tips remaining mint green. In summer, leafy flower stalks rise and tower above the hen bearing unique pinkish purple flowers.
