But the unique characteristics don't stop there. While most other Clematis flower in spring or summer, the wonderfully fragrant, star shaped, pure white flowers of Snowdrift are borne in profusion mid to late winter and continue through early spring. The flowers stand out beautifully against the dark green foliage. Which brings up another unique characteristic. While most clematis have small leaves, the elongated leaves of Snowdrift are very large and lustrous, providing a tropical effect in the garden. It grows best in a moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade. Though it's quite drought tolerant when established, it appreciate an occasional drink during prolonged drought. Make sure not to plant this one too deep as it tends to smother the plant.
