Description

Though our North American native perennial sunflowers have most often been tall plants used in the middle or as a background in perennial gardens, at only 18 inches or so tall and wide, 'Sunstruck' is a more compact variety perfect for smaller garden spaces and containers, but is also stunning in groupings at the front of the border in larger garden spaces. In mid to late spring, LOADS of golden yellow daisy-like flowers with prominent golden-bronze center values begin to appear above the highly attractive variegated creamy white leaves with dark green veins, which hold their color throughout the season. Bloom continues through summer and even into fall if spent flowers are deadheaded. The flowers are enjoyed by butterflies and excellent for cutting and display in your favorite vase.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 14 to 16 inches tall and 18 or so inches wide, the Sunstruck Heliopsis is ideal for use as an accent in sunny smaller garden spaces or pots, planters and other containers or in grouping or as a border in larger spaces. A fine addition to butterfly and beneficial pollinator gardens, yellow theme gardens, native plant gardens, wildflower gardens, meadow gardens and cottage gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  16 inches apart for groupings or solid borders; 3 feet apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

Sunstruck Heliopsis is easy to grow in moist any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun to light shade. We suggest at least 6 hours or more of direct sunlight for best flowering and overall performance. Morning sun is a must to dry dew from the leaves. Fresh flowers can be cut for use in flower arrangements. Spent flowers can be deadhead to encourage heavier rebloom throughout the season. When all foliage has died back for winter all plants parts can be removed.
