In summer, large pink-tinged flower spikes rise 2 to 3 feet above and hover over like a cloud over the columnar 4 foot clumps of arching blue-green grassy foliage. Inconspicuous flowers with burgundy anthers dangle from the well-branched panicles followed by shiny, tear drop shaped seeds that develop from single flowered spikelets that persist well into winter for birds to feed on. Foliage turns attractive shades of gold and orange in fall and finally to tan in winter. Switch Grass grow, best in full sun but will tolerate some light shade. Too much shade and plants might become floppy. Maintenance is minimal.
