It adds up to 2 feet in height per year soaring to 20 feet or more in height when all grown up. An outstanding sentinel in the garden, its rigidly upright columnar form is handsomely clothed in downward facing fans of lacy, rich green foliage held very close to the its trunk. Upon closer observation, shaggy antique-red bark on the trunk of older trees and gray branches add additional interest. Established trees have good drought tolerance. As with so many other coniferous evergreens, constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic. Good drainage is essential. A little shade is tolerated but we suggest at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
