At 10 years of age, it reaches about 8 to 10 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide. After 10 years, it slowly adds height and width, reaching approximately 12 to 14 feet tall and 4 to 6 feet wide over time. The color of this magnificent cultivar has Japanese written all over it. The leaves emerge a bright red in spring, gradually turning to maroon. In summer, the foliage lightens a bit in color, and the center of the leaves develops a golden glow. As temperatures cool in fall, the leaves turn to a brilliant red.
