Description
A robust and lovely North American Native plant that can be grown almost anywhere in the country (USDA Zones 3a-9b), American Boneset, Eupatorium perfoliatum is a hardy perennial flowering featuring abundant, large clusters of fragrant flowers the late-season butterflies and beneficial pollinators will appreciate. From mid or late summer through early fall, 4 to 8-inch diameter flat-topped clusters of white disc florets appear atop sturdy stems above a 4 to 6-foot high and 3 to 4-foot wide upright foliage clump. Attractive, lanceolate, toothed leaves are up to 8 inches long. American Boneset is easy to grow in a sunny position with consistently moist soil and a fine addition to butterfly and pollinator gardens, native and wildflower gardens, and rain gardens.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 4 to 6 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide, American Boneset is ideal for use as an accent or grouping in mid to larger-sized perennial and sunny to partially shaded woodland borders, especially those where the soil stays consistently moist. It is excellent around streams, ponds, and other bodies of water. It is a fine addition to butterfly gardens, beneficial pollinator gardens, white-theme gardens, native gardens, wildlife gardens, and meadow gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 2 to 3 feet apart for groupings; 6 feet or more apart for space between plants
