Description

A 2020 All American Selections Herbaceous Perennial Winner, the American Gold Rush Rudbeckia, commonly called Black-eyed Susan, is destined to become a staple for gardens and landscapes all over the country. Rivaling garden mums in flower power, the compact, dome-shaped mounds become literally covered with bright golden yellow flowers that have arching petals surrounding black center cones. Blooming from July to September, with some color up until frost, this cultivar has smaller foliage and shorter height compared to other Rudbeckia varieties. American Gold Rush was bred for resistance to Septoria leaf spot, showing no signs of the fungus even in wet, humid conditions. Incredibly easy to grow and pollinators love it!

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing only 2 feet tall and 2 to 2.5 inches wide, the American Gold Rush Rudbeckia is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces or in groupings or mass plantings in sunny landscape or woodland borders and perennial gardens. The plant is so reliable we don't hesitate to recommend it for use in the landscape. Its low and mounding form lends well for use as a border along paths and walkways. A fine addition to butterfly, cut flower, cottage and yellow color theme gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  2 feet apart for mass plantings or solid borders

Growing Preferences

The American Gold Rush Rudbeckia is very easy to grow in most any well-drained but moist soil in full to mostly sun. Provide at least 6 hours of direct sun for best flowering. As with many other perennial plants, constantly soggy or wet soils are problematic. Heavy, dense clay soils should be amended with organic matter to improve drainage.
