Growing 30 to 45 feet tall and 40 to 45 feet wide, the American Yellowwood tree is ideal for use as a specimen or in groupings in sunny to partially shaded landscape and woodland borders. Very nice around patios, decks and other outdoor sitting and living spaces where it will provide welcome shade during the hot summer months. No pruning is necessary however can be done for shaping purposes or to remove lower branches to expose more trunk. See more sun preference details below under Growing Preferences. A fine addition to shade gardens, children's gardens and recreational areas, bord gardens, beneficial pollinator gardens, sunny and partially shaded woodland gardens, fragrance gardens, native plant gardens, cottage gardens and white theme gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  50 feet or more apart for space between tees

The American Yellowwood Tree is easy to grow in most any moist but well draining soil of average or better fertility and full sun to part shade. It has a deep root system so is drought tolerant when established. It is not picky at all about soil pH. It prefers a site where it won't be exposed to high winds. No pruning is necessary however can be done during summer for shaping purposes or to remove lower branches exposing more trunk. Dead or damaged branches can be removed at any time of year.
