Description

A stunning native coniferous evergreen, the Archer's Dwarf White Fir captivates with beautiful color and texture. It forms an upright, somewhat narrow pyramid 8 to 10 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide at its base, covered in two-tone powder blue and silvery white foliage. In spring, the light chartreuse color of new growth is an extraordinary and eye-catching contrast with the mature foliage. Another unusual characteristic is how the needles are slightly curved inwards along the stems. A slow growth rate of 4 to 6 inches per year makes it a fine selection for small garden spaces and containers for situating on patios and around other outdoor sitting and living spaces, where folks will want to reach out and touch it. When rubbed, the thick, fleshy needles have a pleasant lemon scent. Being an American native, Archer's Dwarf is easy to grow in full sun or partial shade and well-drained soil, but remember that established conifers don't like being moved, so spend time choosing the right spot where this beauty will call home for a lifetime.

Landscape & Garden Uses

At 8 to 10 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide when all grown up, the Archer's Dwarf White Fir is ideal for use as an eye-catching focal point specimen in small garden spaces and containers. It can also be planted in spaced groupings at 7 feet or more apart. It is a fine addition to conifer gardens, blue gardens, Asian gardens, Zen gardens, and rock gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  Best as a specimen, in small groupings spaced 7' or more apart

Growing Preferences

The Archer's Dwarf White Fir is easy to grow in moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and at least 6 hours or more of direct sunlight daily. As with many other conifers, constantly soggy or wet soils can be problematic, leading to root rot or other harmful plant diseases. So make sure to plant this one in well-drained soil, whether in the ground or pots. Once established, water needs are lower when growing in the ground. In pots, soil moisture must be monitored more closely, especially during summer. When the top two inches of soil is dry, provide water.
