Description

The most attractive and fastest growing of the upright columnar Boxwood varieties in our gardens, and extremely cold hardy to -30F, 'Arctic Emerald' sports very dark green leaves on a naturally upright and narrow pyramidal form 6 to 8 feet in height and 2 to 3 feet wide. Chartreuse-green new growth really pops against the dark green mature foliage. Responds well to clipping or shearing for a very tight column, cone or narrow pyramid. Excellent in landscape beds or pots as a specimen, in groupings, to accentuate entryways or corners, or as a narrow hedge or screen for tight spaces.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 6 to 8 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide in a naturally upright narrow pyramid form with no pruning, the Arctic Emerald Boxwood is ideal for use as a vertical vertical accent in smaller garden spaces or containers or in groupings, to frame entryways, or as a narrow hedge. Responds very well to an occasional trimming or shearing to form a tight column or pyramid. Great for those narrow spots in home foundation plants planted in the ground or in well-draining pots. A fine addition to formal gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  24 inches apart for solid hedges;  6 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

The Arctic Emerald Boxwood is exceptionally easy to grow in a moist but well drained soil of average or better fertility and full sun to part shade. As with so many other plants, a constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic. For best density and overall performance we suggest at least 6 hours of direct sun per day. In our gardens, we've found it to have exceptional cold, heat, drought, disease and pest resistance. Responds well to clipping for size control or shaping purposes.
