Description

When we first saw 'Baby' in the name, we thought it referred to a smaller size. Though it doesn't grow to the heights of the original species, we don't consider Baby Blue Eyes Colorado Spruce to be a dwarf, as it might reach 20 feet tall and 10 to 15 feet wide at its base when all grown up. Instead, 'Baby Blue Eyes' was named for its stunning, soothing silvery-blue foliage that will make a statement and bring calm to the landscape year-round. Easy to grow and exceptionally cold hardy to -50F, Baby BlueEyes is a tree of magnificent beauty that deserves a spot in every landscape where it will grow.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 15 to 20 feet tall and 10 to 15 feet wide, the Baby Blue Eyes Colorado Spruce is ideal as a focal point specimen in the landscape or to frame homes or entrances. It can be planted in spaced groupings or three or more trees where space allows. Its dense and pyramidal form makes for an excellent outdoor Christmas tree. It can also be grown in pots and planters but might eventually need to be transplanted into the landscape. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will thrive in inner city environments. A very welcome addition to the conifer garden, blue-theme garden, native plant garden, wildlife garden, and Xeriscape (low water needs).

Spacing:  17 feet apart for space between trees

Growing Preferences

The Baby Blue Eyes Colorado Spruce is easy to grow in moist, well-drained soil with average fertility and full to mostly sun. Constantly soggy soil is problematic. Once established, it has high drought tolerance. No pruning is necessary as it naturally keeps a dense pyramidal form.
