Description

With its long, strong, upright and straight stems, Barbeque Rosemary is the perfect variety to use for skewers when cooking on the grill. A fast growing evergreen plant, its upright branches can reach heights of 4 to 6 feet and are packed with aromatic and flavorful needle-like foliage. In summer, an abundance of cute blue flowers up and down the stems are an extra-added bonus. Excellent for use in the landscape as a hedge or as a centerpiece in container gardens.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing in a large upright form 4 to 6 feet tall and about 3 feet wide, Barbecue Rosemary is an ideal choice for container gardening on the back patio, or wherever your grill is located. It is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings or as a hedge in sunny landscape borders and garden beds. A fine evergreen addition to herb gardens where it serves as a focal point or background plant and in fragrance gardens, Asian gardens, cottage gardens, cut flower gardens, blue color theme gardens and the Xeriscape (low water needs).

Suggested Spacing:  2 to 2.5 feet apart for solid hedge;  6 feet or more apart for space between plants

Culinary Uses & Storing

Rosemary can be used fresh or dried in cooking. Both the leaves and the flowers can be useful. For fresh use and the highest oil content, harvest early in the morning. Chop finely or tie stems together and remove before serving to infuse flavor. A little rosemary goes a long way!

For longer term storage, cut whole stems and tie bunches together in small batches. Hang in a dry location out of the sun that will receive plenty of air. Rosemary leaves may also be dried on screens in a dry, shady location. Simply strip the leaves from the stems and scatter on drying screens. Stir occasionally to help even drying. Do not use heat to dry rosemary as the oils can be volatile. Store in air-tight containers in a dry, dark location.

Growing Preferences

Barbecue Rosemary is easy to grow in most any somewhat loose and moist to somewhat dry soil of average fertility and full to mostly sun. Plants will tolerate some shade but foliage won't be as dense. Can be pruned regularly for shaping and or culinary use.
