A member of the Bellini Crape Myrtle Series bred for compact size, cold tolerance, early bloom and delicious colors, 'Bellini Strawberry' features abundant clusters of bright red flowers from late spring through summer. The flowers really pop against the deep green glossy foliage on a rounded mound 3 to 4 feet tall and equally as wide, making it a good fit as a colorful accent in small garden spaces or in groupings or as a hedge where space allows. Its smaller stature also makes it suitable for growing in containers. One of if not the most cold hardy of all crape myrtles, Bellini Strawberry is root hardy to USDA Zone 5 where winter low temperatures can drop to -20F, and heat hardy to USDA Zone 9.

Growing 3 to 4 feet tall and wide, the Bellini Strawberry Crape Myrtle is ideal for use as an accent specimen in smaller garden spaces or grouped or as a hedge where space allows in sunny landscape borders. A nice accent shrub in home foundation plantings and well-suited for pots, planters and other containers of 18" or larger rim diameter. A fine addition to red theme gardens and cottage gardens.

Bellini Strawberry Crape Myrtle is exceptionally easy to grow and maintain when planted right and in the right spot. It's not too picky about soil type however prefers a moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and as much sun as you can provide. Light shade is tolerated but flowering is diminished with more shade. Maintenance is minimal, with very little if any pruning required for plants to maintain density and a nice form. That said, spent flowers can be removed to encourage development of more flowers. A light pruning before leaves emerge in early spring can help to maintain a more dense shrub. Established plants are quite drought tolerant; only requiring supplemental water during prolonged dry periods during summer. As with all other crape myrtle, deer won't touch this one.
