Description

One of our favorite evergreen azaleas of all time, the 'Ben Morrison' Azalea shows off a plethora of large, very striking bicolored flowers with salmon petals with a wide white edging and deep red freckles in mid spring. A vigorous grower 3 to 4 feet tall and 5 to 6 feet wide at maturity with an open habit, this stunning beauty will not go unnoticed in the garden!

Although this plant was propagated by Ben Morrison of Glenn Dale in Maryland, it was registered and introduced after his passing by The United States Department of Agriculture.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing in a rounded mound 3 to 4 feet tall and 5 to 6 feet wide, the Ben Morrison Azalea is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or as a natural hedge in landscape and woodland borders and home foundation plantings. Grows well in medium size containers 14 inches or more in diameter. A fine addition to Azalea gardens, pink theme gardens, cottage gardens, and partially shaded woodland gardens.

Spacing:  3 to 4 feet apart for solid hedges; 8 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

Evergreen Azaleas are easy to grow when planted right and in the right spot. They prefer a moist but well-drained and acidic soil that is rich in organic matter and part sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sun is ideal. Though plants will tolerate periodic wet conditions, constantly soggy or wet soil is problematic. Moderate drought tolerance when established.
